Trends…either we love them or we hate them, but at some point we’ve all succumbed to them. As we age, we tend to stay away from makeup trends, assuming they’re for the younger generation, but any age can wear them. It’s just learning how to make it work for you! The trends we are seeing this fall have some past favorites as well as some new looks.
Who doesn’t love a good winged liner? It can take a ho-hum eye look and make it pop! As much as we love it for this season it’s taking a backseat to smudged out black liner. This is great for beginners, take a black kohl eye pencil, I personally love the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in Perversion, and apply it to your upper lash line. Get as close to your eyelashes as possible. Next, use an angled eyeliner brush to smudge the eyeliner around the eye.
If you just can’t give up that winged liner, then give it some glitter! I love using this for the holidays to add a little something special to my eye makeup. You can use this in place of your regular eyeliner or as an accent in addition to it. It’s great to put on the inner corners of your eyes to open them up or as an accent on the wing of your winged liner. A great, inexpensive glitter liner is the NYX Liquid Crystal Liner.
They’re back and just as amazing as they were last year! A lot of older women stay away from darker shades because they can bleed into the fine lines around our mouth. To prevent this use a lip liner in either a shade that matches the lipstick or a nude liner. When choosing a lip shade think of your undertone and choose a shade that works with it. If you have a cooler undertone than a lipstick that is blue based (no, not a blue shade just the undertone of the color). You’re going to want a deep berry or plum. For Warmer skin tone you’re better off getting a burgundy or mahogany shade. These tend to be red based. No matter what your undertone, there is a shade out there that will work for you. MAC has amazing lipsticks that feel good and wear well. A great warmed toned, vampy shade is Media by MAC. It is an intense purple with a red tone to it and, for the cool toned gals out there, try MAC’s Film Noir. It is a purple with deep brown tones, perfect for fall!
With the cooler weather brings rosy cheeks and that same look is carrying over into our makeup. To achieve this keep your contour and bronzing to a minimum and, instead apply your blush to the apples of your cheeks and sweep upward towards your temple. This will deposit the most product on the apples of your cheeks and fade up and into your hairline. An awesome drugstore blush is by Milani in the shade Luminoso. It will give you that rosy glow. It is a pinky-peach shade with a hint of shimmer. Not a lot, just enough to give you a subtle highlight.
Big Bold Lashes
Big lashes are in and, most of the time to achieve these you
need to apply false lashes. Thankfully, more mascara brands are making formulas that can almost achieve the look without the hassle! I have two favorites when it comes to mascara that takes my lashes to a new level. The first is Tarteist by Tarte. This mascara gives me big, full lashes with one coat and it lasts all day! A great drugstore option is by Maybelline and is their New York Volum’ Express Pumped Up Colossal Mascara. This gives me long, thick lashes with two coats and will last throughout my day.
I encourage you to step out of your normal beauty comfort zone and try something new this season. Pick a trend and try it, you never know what you may fall in love with. Remember, the best thing about makeup is if you don’t like it then wash your face and start again. Let me know which trend you tried!
